MISCHIEVOUS TIGER
Beside the palace gate in an iron cage, lived a big tiger. The tiger always with folded arms, requested all those who passed the palace gate, “Please sir, open the cage once!” On hearing this they would say, “O sure! We’ll open the cage, and you’ll break our neck.”

Now there was a big feast in the king’s palace. Renowned Brahmins came to attend the feast. Among them was a Brahmin who was an innocent and good person. Tiger started greeting this priest again and again.

Seeing this Brahmin said, “O, this tiger is so good! What do you want?” Tiger folded his arms and said, “Sir, if you please open the cage door! I bend low on your feet.”

Now this Brahmin was really a very good person, so he immediately opened the cage door. Then the wretched tiger came out of the cage and with a big grin said, “Brahmin I’ll eat you!” Anybody else in such a situation would have run away. But this good Brahmin didn’t know how to run.

BRAHMIN IS SHOCKED
He very impatiently said, “I’ve never heard such things! I helped you so much and you want to eat me! Can anybody do such a deed?” Tiger said, “Of course sir, everybody does so.” Brahmin said, “No, never. Let’s go and seek three witnesses, and see what they say.” Tiger said, “Ok, let’s go. If the witnesses agree with you, I’ll leave you and go away. But if they agree with men, then I’ll eat you up.”
REAL LIFE FAIRY EXISTS?
Hence, they both went to the field in search of witnesses. Farmers raise a strip of land separated by furrows. These paths are called ridges. Brahmin pointed at such a ridge and said, “This is my witness.” Tiger said, “Alright. Ask it, what it says.”
BRAHMIN’S FIRST WITNESS
Brahmin then asked, “Tell me ridge, if I do good to someone, will he harm me in return?” Ridge replied, “Why not Sir? Look at me. I remain between the land of two farmers; what a help they get. One can’t take another’s land. The water from one person’s land can’t enter into another’s land. I help them so much but they dig me with their plow to increase their land.
WHERE IS REAL LIFE FAIRY?
Tiger said, “So you heard it, Sir. If one does something good for others, then they harm him!” Brahmin said, “Wait. I’ve two more witnesses. Tiger said, “Alright, let’s go.”
BRAHMIN’S SECOND WITNESS
Brahmin saw a banyan tree in the middle of the field. Pointing at the tree Brahmin said to Tiger, “Look, that is my second witness.” Tiger said, “Alright ask it. Let’s see what it says.” Brahmin said, “O Banyan Tree, you’re quite old. Hence, you’ve heard and seen a lot. Now tell me will anyone harm him who does something good?”
THE BANYAN TREE
Banyan Tree said, “That’s what the first thing people do. Those people sit under my cool shade, and then they dig out my milk. Again they tear my leaf to hold that milk. There you see, they go away breaking my branch.” Tiger now said, “What does the tree say, sir!”
BRAHMAN IN TROUBLE
Now the Brahmin was in great trouble. He couldn’t make out what to say. Just then a fox was passing by. Brahmin pointed at the fox and said, “There’s my third witness. Let’s see what he says.”
THE LEARNED FOX
Then he called Fox and said, “Learned Fox, please stop. You’re my witness.” Fox stopped but did not come closer. He asked, “What do you say! How have I become your witness?” Brahmin said, “Now tell me, does anybody harm him who does something good?” Fox said, “First tell me who did good to whom and who harmed whom; then only I can say.”
I SAW A REAL LIFE FAIRY
Brahmin said, “Tiger was inside the cage, and me a Brahmin was passing down the road…..” hearing this much only, Fox said, “This is very difficult. I can’t say anything unless I see that cage and that road.” Hence, again they all came up to the cage. Fox walked around the cage quite a number of times and said, “Alright, I’ve understood the cage and the road. Now tell me everything.”
THE BRAHMIN IN REAL LIFE FAIRY
Brahmin said, “Tiger was inside the cage, and me a Brahmin was walking down this road.” Immediately Fox stopped him and said, “Wait don’t rush on. First, let me understand this much. What did you say? Tiger was your Brahmin, the road was walking down the cage?” Hearing this Tiger laughed loudly and said, “Rubbish you donkey! Tiger was inside the cage, and Brahmin was walking down the road!”
A FOX AND REAL LIFE FAIRY
Fox said, “Hold on! Brahmin was inside the cage and Tiger was walking down the road?” Fox said, “This is so confusing. I can’t understand anything. What did you say? Tiger was inside Brahmin and the cage was walking down the path?”
THE TIGER AND REAL LIFE FAIRY
Tiger said, “I’ve never seen such a fool! Oho, Tiger was inside the cage and Brahmin walked down the path.” Scratching his head, Fox said, “No, I can’t understand. It’s so difficult!” Tiger was really angry now. He scolded Fox, “You have to understand this! Look, I was inside this cage – look – in this way….” Tiger entered the cage while saying this. At once fox shut the cage door and put on the latch. Then Fox told Brahmin, “Now I’ve understood everything, sir. If you want my suggestion, then it is that never help a bad person. Hence, uncle tiger has won. Now you go quickly, the feast is yet not over.”
Saying this fox went towards the forest, and Brahmin went to attend the feast.
