The field of Bhushandi is a very big field. Although it is not as big as the field of Tepantar, but bigger than any ordinary field. But people generally used to avoid passing through the field of Bhusandi. This is because the field was haunted. Even during day time people avoided this field.

If one goes to Bhushandi through this field, he has to cover a distance of 26 miles. But if one takes the longer route he has to cover a distance of 60 miles. That means more than double! Inspite of this nobody even dreams of going to Burdwan through the field of Bhushandi.

But things are different for Taru Chakraborty, the son of Haru Chakraborty. He practices wrestling in the gymnesium. Taru even has many followers and students. He is a noted gymnast. Once due to some urgent business, Taru had to go to Burdwan.

Few of the villagers asked him, “Taru, you too must be taking the longer route to Burdwan?” If these villagers had not asked Taru, he too would have taken the longer route to Burdwan. But because they asked him, his stubbornness increased.

Taru said, “Am I afraid of ghosts? I shall take the field to Bhushandi to reach Burdwan.” Whoever heard him were all surprised. “I’ll carry with me an oiled bamboo staff. If the ghosts attack me, I shall break their legs.”

This reached the ears of Haru Chakraborty, the father of Taru Chakraborty. He called his son and said, “Look Taru its good to have determination but don’t be stubborn. And they are not humanbeings. Hence, none of your tricks will work on them.”

But by then Taru’s stubornness had reached its summit. He said, “Ghosts overpower men. But this time I shall set a new example by overpowering a ghost.” It is now impossible to calm him down. Hence, when Taru Chakraborty set out with his oiled bamboo stick, the whole village stared at him.

Hence, Taru Chakraborty stepped on the field of Bhushandi. But after walking for a distance, he started to have an uncanny feeling. It seemed to him somebody was walking along with him, though he couldn’t see anyone. He could even hear sounds of whispers around him. But still he couldn’t see anyone.

Someone whispered beside Taru Chakraborty in a husky voice, “Who’s this?” Another husky voice replied, “Walking like a hero with this staff in hand!” Again a third husky voice, “Once if we show ourselves to him, he’ll forget all his heroism! Hee hee hee!” In this way those husky voices continued whispering beside Taru.
TARU IS SCARED
Taru roared at the invisible whispers, “Who are you?” (Actually his voice was hardly audible. Perhaps a scared person sounds like that.) One of the husky voices questioned back, “Who are you sir? How dare you question us while travelling through our area?”

“Have you bought this field?” asked Taru. The ghosts giggled, “Are we fools like humans, that we’ll spend money from our pockets to own a land? This field is ours. Why are you asking such rubbish questions? Who are you sir?

“I’m Taru from the village of Adul.” One of the voice said, “Taru or Haru, what are you doing here?” Taru with trembling voice said, “I’m going to Burdwan.” “Is it possible to go only if you want to go?” said another ghost. Taru was extremely scared, “What do you mean?” “This field belongs to us. You can’t go without our permission.”

Taru Chakraborty had been arguing with the ghosts for quite sometime. By now he had gained some courage. Moreover since these ghosts have not broken his neck till now, they too must have been scare of him. Hence, gathering up his courage, Taru said, “Why are you invisible? If you have courage show yourselves to me.”

One of the voices said, “Let us then show ourselves to him. Hee hee hee!” All the voices stood beforehim. One of the voices said, “Now let us see what you can do.” Taru was about to faint seeing four terrible looking ghosts in front of him.

One of the ghosts caught Taru and prevented him from falling down. “How can you fall so fast? You first have to show us what you can do.” Taru in trembling voice said, “What can I do? You are four and I am alone.” One of the ghosts came forward and said, “They’ll not interfere. I’ll fight with you alone. Let’s see all your fighting tactics.” By now Taru has understood he was upon their mercy. So he said, “What is the use of fighting? I accept my defeat. Please let me go,”

They said, “ We may leave you, but a little ahead the area of Mamdo and Jamdo will start. If you still want to continue with this route Mamdo and jamdo won’t leave you. They’ll definitely break your neck.” Taru cried like a little boy, “Oh no! I shall never take this route to Burdwan. Let me return back home today.” Hence, Taru turned around and ran back to his village.
TARU BOASTS OF FIGHTING WITH GHOSTS
Returning back home, Taru had very high fever. After a few days, when he recovered, the villagers asked him, “What had happened Taru?” Taru replied, “First I broke the legs of four of them with my staff. Then I saw thousands of ghosts coming towards me. How shall I alone fight so many ghosts? Hence, I ran back home.”
The wise men of the village said, “You’ve taken a very good decision, Taru. It’s impossible to fight thousand ghosts.”
