                                                 TIGER FOX TAILOR BIRD

There was a very huge forest. The forest was full of trees. Many birds and animals roamed about in that forest. A sweet breeze blew over the forest the whole day. Lovely lakes were here and there in the forest. The forest was very beautiful!

However, people never entered this forest. They were all scared of this huge forest. This is because the king of the forest was a fierce tiger. The tiger had a pretty tigress. Tiger killed animals and brought them to his house and Tigress cooked them deliciously.

The tiger hated human beings. Whenever he saw a man in the forest, he pounced upon him. Tigress was very fond of human curry! Hence, nobody dared to enter that forest.

And why only men, no animal of the forest even dared to come in front of the tiger. Who knows if Tiger kills them!

But Tiger had one good quality. In one day he killed only one animal. Tigress cooked it deliciously and Tiger ate till his tummy was full. Then taking burps he went to roam in the forest. He no more disturbed any animal then. Days passed by in this way.

Now in that forest lived a fox. The fox was very cunning. He too had heard about Tigress’ culinary skills. Fox wanted to taste her food but was scared of Tiger. One day Fox thought of a plan. He dressed up very well. Then when Tiger went out of the house, he entered slyly and called, “Aunt Tigress! Aunt Tigress! Are you there?” Tigress came out and saw a fox. Fox quickly touched her feet and said, “Aunt, Uncle Tiger praises so much about you. So I’ve come to meet you.”

Tigress was very happy hearing her praises. Fox again said, “Aunty, uncle even said you’re a great cook.” Tigress was extremely happy. She then said, “Yesterday I cooked a boar curry and fried a few frogs. A little bit of these is still left. Will you have that nephew?”

Fox was very happy. His plan was successful. He ate and praised Tigress simultaneously. After finishing the food he told Tigress, “Aunty, don’t tell uncle about my coming here. Who knows when he’s angry or when he’s happy? I would rather tell him when he’s in a pleasant mood.” Saying this Fox again touched the feet of Tigress and left.

Since then Fox had a real good time. Frequently he came to Tiger’s house, flattered Tigress, ate delicious food, and went away. Fox nowadays had no worries to hunt animals for his food. Foolish Tigress was very pleased with Fox. She thought Tiger’s nephew was really very good. Hence, whatever she cooked, she kept aside for Fox. He came, ate, and went away smacking his lips.

One day a tailor bird flew into that forest. The whole day she flew here and there in the forest and ate fruits, worms, and insects. At night time she would fly into her nest and take a rest. Tailor Bird’s nest was on the topmost branch of a tree and she flew in the sky. Hence, Tiger couldn’t see her. She, too, was not scared of Tiger, Fox, or Bear.

Now, one day Tailor Bird sat on a tree in front of Tiger’s house eating worms. She saw a fox entering Tiger’s house. Tigress fed him very well. Then the fox went away praising the tigress. Tailor Bird was very cunning. She understood the fox was cheating the foolish tigress by praising her and filling his tummy with delicacies.

All around the forest Tailor Bird flew and chirped, “Cunning Fox is cheating foolish Tigress. He goes to Tiger’s house and fills his tummy with delicious food.” Gradually all the birds and animals in the forest heard the tailorbird. They started to make fun of Tiger. Tiger was very angry with Tailor Bird. But what to do? Tiger couldn’t fly!

Tiger was angry with Fox too. Fox knew Tiger won’t leave him. Hence, he stopped going to Tiger’s house. He hid behind some hogla bush. Tiger was so angry that he went straight to Falcon. Falcon lived on the top of the tallest tree in the forest.

On seeing Tiger, Falcon said, “What do you want Uncle Tiger?” Tiger said, “A tiny tailor bird has dared to insult me, the king of the forest.” Falcon was shocked, “What are you saying Uncle Tiger? A tiny tailor bird has insulted you!” Tiger replied, “Yes. She has dared because she flies high up in the sky. Hence, I’ve come to you. You’ll catch the bird and bring her to me. I’ll swallow her alive.”

The next morning Falcon started on his mission to catch Tailor Bird. He flew high up in the sky. At one time he saw Tailor Bird singing from the top of a tree. Immediately Falcon swooped down, clutched down, and brought her to Tiger.

Tiger roared in anger seeing the tailorbird. He called three bears and said, “I’m going to swallow the tailorbird. You three raise your paws and keep a guard so the bird can’t escape.” The bears raised their paws and guarded while Tiger swallowed Tailor Bird alive.

Now the tailor bird fluttered inside Tiger’s tummy. So Tiger felt like vomiting. Within moments Tiger threw out Tailor Bird. The three bears tried to catch the bird but instead injured the tiger’s face. In the meantime, Tailor Bird flew very far away from that forest.

Unable to teach Tailor Bird a lesson, Tiger spent his days very sadly. After six months the injuries on Tiger’s face were cured. But Tiger never got back his handsome face again.
