FASHION: ALL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
FASHION
WHAT IS FASHION?
Fashion, though a small word has a very vast sphere. The word fashion is neither limited to a particular age, time nor to a particular place or thing. Fashion began with the emergence of the oldest civilizations in the ancient world and it will remain till doomsday.
HOW TO DEFINE FASHION?
Broader Sense
Fashion is an expression of beauty, at a particular age, a particular place and among a particular race or age group. Fashion is an ever-changing process and never stands stagnant.
Narrower Sense
However, in its daily use, the term hints at the look that the fashion industry defines. And that obviously becomes the look of the moment. It is not only limited to clothing and make-up. Fashion has spread its tentacles on automobiles, furniture, home decors and even office decors.
FASHION IN CLOTHING AND MAKE-UP
PARAGRAPH 1
Fashion has entered into our daily life. Hence, it is not restricted to any particular age group or occasions like festivals and parties. People search for fashion even in their day to day life. So to be fashionable we always believe to flow with the present fashion trend. Well, it’s ok but still, we need to keep a few things in mind.
PARAGRAPH 2 (what is fashion)
The first step in fashion is to know the colour shades which go best with our skin tones. Without this step, we can never select the proper outfit or make-up or hair colour.
SO LET’S KNOW OUR SKIN TONE FIRST.
WHAT IS MY SKIN UNDERTONE?
Wait wait! Now I am not asking whether you are fair, medium or dark-complexioned. Well, that anybody can tell with his/her naked eye. Now an undertone is different from a complexion. Majority of the Indian women select their apparels, cosmetics and hair colours on the basis of their skin complexion. But the truth is it is not the complexion but the undertone that plays a great role in the selection of the right shade.
HOW MANY UNDERTONES DO WE HAVE? ( what is fashion)
We basically have three skin undertones. They are ‘cool’, ‘warm’ and ‘neutral’.
Cool undertone: one whose overall complexion has more red, blue and pink hues is ‘cool’.
Warm undertone: one with more peach, yellow and golden hues is said to be ‘warm’.
Neutral undertone: the ones who neither have cool or warm undertones are classified as ‘neutral’.
HOW SHALL I FIND OUT MY SKIN UNDERTONE?
To detect your skin undertone you need not spend thousands of rupees. Rather it’s a very simple process which can be done easily at home.
YOU NEED TO TAKE THESE 4 SIMPLE TESTS TO KNOW YOUR SKIN TONES.
TEST 1: THE VEIN TEST
Closely examine the colour of your veins at the underside of your wrist.
- Cool: if the veins in your wrist look blue or purple, you possess a cool undertone.
- Warm: you have a warm undertone if your veins appear greenish or olive.
- Neutral: now if you cannot determine the dominant colour in our veins then your undertone is neutral.
TEST 2: THE JEWELLERY TEST
Now for this test, you need a piece of silver and gold jewellery. Take the silver and gold piece of jewellery and place it next to your skin.
- Cool: if silver jewellery looks flattering on your skin, you have a cool undertone.
- Warm: your undertone is more likely to be warm if gold suits better on your skin.
- Neutral: you are more likely to have a neutral undertone if both gold and silver sit well on your skin.
Pro Tip: Many consider rose gold to be a cool-toned metal. However, rose gold should not be used in this test. For perfect results stick to silver and gold.
TEST 3: THE SUN TEST
The result of this test depends on how your skin reacts when exposed to the sun.
- Cool: your skin has a cool undertone if it tends to turn red or burn when exposed to the sun.
- Warm: you have a warm undertone if your skin tans easily if exposed to the sun.
Pro Tip: Since both cool and warm skin tones are prone to sunburn, you should always apply sunscreen with high SF every time you go out in the sun.
TEST 4: THE COLOUR TEST
Now let’s have some fun time. Take out all your favourite outfits from your wardrobe. Next place a mirror in a well-lit room, preferably in daylight. Now hold each of your apparel at a time next to your skin. See how each of the colours makes you look.
- Cool: if colours like blue, green, purple, pink etc compliment your skin tone, you have a cool undertone.
- Warm: if colours like peach, red, yellow, orange etc go well with your skin tone, you have a warm undertone.
- Neutral: now if you feel you look good in every colour, O the lucky you! Your undertone is neutral.
WHY SHOULD WE KNOW OUR SKIN UNDERTONE?
The most important step is to know your skin undertone. It helps us to select the right clothing and the right make-up.
HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT CLOTHING?
By now you already know your skin undertone. So you know how to select your clothing now. Here goes the rule of thumb for selecting clothes. Pick cool colours for a cool undertone and warm colours for a warm undertone.
HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT MAKE-UP?
The same rule for selecting your clothing goes for your make-up also. Be it your foundation or your eye shadow or your lipstick. Always go for the right make-up that compliments your natural complexion.
FOUNDATION
Take the help of a skin tone chart to select the right foundation shade for yourself.
COOL UNDERTONE
The foundation for a cool undertone will appear a little pinkish in colour. Do not go for yellowish foundations. This will make your face look ashy.
WARM UNDERTONE
If you have a warm undertone yellow foundation will make you look better.
NEUTRAL UNDERTONE ( what is fashion)
If your undertone is neutral then go for a peachy foundation.
LIPSTICK
Try the different shades on the inside of your arm. Notice how the different undertones look against your skin.
COOL UNDERTONE
You can go for a lipstick with a blue-ish shade, like cherry red. You can also go for berry shades, like dark plum or cranberry.
WARM UNDERTONE
If you have a warm undertone go for a lipstick shade with warm colours like brick-red, terracotta-red and orangey-red.
NEUTRAL UNDERTONE
Lucky you, if you have a neutral undertone. You can go for a wide range of shades.
EYESHADOW
Like foundation and lipstick, select eye shadow according to your undertone.
COOL UNDERTONE
Shades of pink, rosy browns, blues and black go well with cool undertones.
WARM UNDERTONE
If you are with a warm undertone stick to warm eye shadow shades. Go for shades like rust, gold or bronze.
NEUTRAL UNDERTONE
People with neutral undertone should go for neutral or natural shades.
HAIR COLOUR
Now it’s your time to choose the right hair colour. From the hair colour chart, you need to select. But how? Here the rule of thumb goes just reverse. Cool skin undertones look best with warm colours. Again the warm skin undertones look good in cool hair colours.
